Description

Mouth breathing, tongue thrusting, reverse swallowing and thumb sucking (known as  incorrect myofunctional habits) are the real causes of malocclusion. More than 75% of children have a developing malocclusion which is evident from as early as 5 years of age.  Early myofunctional orthodontic treatment using the right appliances can address the causes of the malocclusion while the child is still growing - often without the need for braces or extractions. This hands on course will give participants the knowledge needed to get started with treatment of simple cases using the MRC’s Myobrace and Trainer appliances to correct the causes of malocclusion.

Objectives

The course will cover the following:

  1. Explanation of the concept of soft tissue dysfunction and how this leads to malocclusions
  2. Teach participants how to carry out basic myofunctional evaluation and treatment planning to get started with using the MRC’s appliances.
  3. Discussion of the different appliances available for use in different situations
  4. How to get best patient compliance and use of the patient consultation CD for this.
