Description

The AHCC is a two-week practice-based

clinical course with a high faculty-student

ratio. Only 20 participants are admitted

per class. Approximately 65% of the course

utilizes small-group bedside teaching and case

discussions with 4 - 6 participants per faculty

member. Patients are pre-selected from the

Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) inpatient

wards and outpatient HIV Comprehensive

Care Clinic. The balance of the course

includes interactive lectures, large-group

discussions, and skills sessions. Participants

will be expected to bring challenging cases

from their own work environment for

discussion.

Objectives

The Advanced HIV Clinical Course (AHCC)

is a two-week intensive training program

designed to increase the clinical expertise

of healthcare professionals who already

have considerable experience in the medical

management of HIV.

The course will develop the capacity of HIV

service-providers to care for complex patients

characteristic of mature high-volume cohorts,

and will increase the number of practicing

technical experts with the capacity to act as

clinical resource people for the management of

HIV.

The AHCC uses a competency-based

curriculum that addresses the current highestpriority

needs of experienced clinicians who

care for patients with HIV on a daily basis.

It is primarily taught through small-group

patient encounters led by experienced content

experts. The course is designed and taught by

faculty who are the leaders of clinical decisionmaking

in HIV management in the country,

along with a select group of international

experts who have extensive clinical HIV

experience.
