Description

Evaluation of the dentoalveolar periodontal supporting structures in 3D prior to initiating orthodontic treatment is critical for the identification of underlying risk factors that may predispose patients to attachment loss during or after treatment. Critical parameters include evaluation of the biotype, the quantity and quality of the supporting structures as well as the direction of tooth movement. Prophylactic intervention utilizing soft and hard tissue augmentation techniques to minimize the risks of an unfavorable outcome will be presented.

Objectives

1). To evaluate periodontal supporting structures in 3D and identify parameters that may need to be considered prior to initiating Orthodontic treatment. 2). To Identify risk factors that may contribute to mucogingival problems during or after Orthodontic treatment. 3). To recognize and understand the various modalities of prophylactic intervention that may be required to minimize risk factors.
