Description

This one-day focused medical seminar targets healthcare practitioners interested in learning how to manage patients with high risk of developing deep vein thrombosis and/or pulmonary embolism. The workshop aims to promote best clinical practice and highlight the latest guidelines and treatment modalities from a day-to-day management perspective

Objectives

Know when to suspect DVT or pulmonary embolism Be familiar with how to confirm a diagnosis of DVT and/or PE Be comfortable identifying symptoms and signs of VTE Know how to interpret labs and basic imaging findings confirming or ruling out a VTE diagnosis Know the most common causes of VTE including external and genetic factor and differences between provoked and unprovoked VTE and its implications on treatment Understand the basic strategies of managing VTE in the acute and chronic phase including contraindications for thrombolysis and direct oral anticoagulants Understand the influence of co-morbidities and the choice of blood thinning agent Be able to initiate guideline based pharmacological management
