1.  Diabetic neuropathy is one of the most common cause of painful polyneuropathy

 

2. Poor sugar control and long duration of diabetis mellitus are some of the main risk factors for painful polyneuropthy in diabetis mellitus

 

3. Comprehensive Foot examination including interdigital spaces  foot  inspection and monofilament testing is advised during follow up of diabetic patients.

 

4. FDA approved first line therapy for painful diabetic neuropathy include pregabalin and Duloxetin. Start at low approved doses and gradually increase watching for the advserse effects.

 

5. Management of painful diabetic neuropathy should be intergrated in the comprehensive management of  diabetic patients to reduce CVD risk and complications.
