Description

The Anaesthesia Considerations for Pediatric Airway Foreign Body Aspiration Training is a clinical educational program designed to enhance the knowledge and skills of anaesthesia providers in the assessment and management of children presenting with suspected or confirmed airway foreign body aspiration. The training focuses on preoperative evaluation, anaesthetic planning, airway management techniques, intraoperative challenges, and postoperative care during bronchoscopy and foreign body removal procedures. Through case discussions and evidence-based practices, participants learn to optimize patient safety and improve multidisciplinary team coordination during airway emergencies.

Objectives

Describe the epidemiology and clinical presentation of pediatric airway foreign body aspiration. Conduct a comprehensive preoperative assessment of children with suspected airway foreign bodies. Identify anaesthetic risks and potential complications associated with foreign body aspiration and removal. Discuss appropriate anaesthetic techniques for rigid and flexible bronchoscopy procedures. Demonstrate principles of airway management in pediatric patients with partially or completely obstructed airways. Recognize and manage intraoperative challenges, including airway obstruction, hypoxia, laryngospasm, bronchospasm, and bleeding. Apply strategies for effective communication and teamwork between anaesthetists, surgeons, nurses, and other members of the multidisciplinary team. Outline postoperative monitoring and care requirements following foreign body removal. Implement patient safety measures and emergency preparedness protocols during airway foreign body interventions. Integrate current evidence-based guidelines and best practices into clinical management of pediatric airway foreign body aspiration cases.
