Description

Focus-Assessed Transthoracic Echocardiography (FATE) has become an essential bedside tool in perioperative and critical care settings, enabling clinicians to make rapid, informed decisions in hemodynamically unstable patients. This webinar, led by Dr. Kevin Umani, will provide a practical overview of FATE, emphasizing its role in assessing cardiac function, guiding fluid management, and identifying life-threatening conditions in real time. Participants will gain insight into how focused echocardiography can be integrated into routine clinical practice to enhance patient safety, improve outcomes, and support timely clinical interventions in both the operating room and intensive care unit.

Objectives

Understand the principles of Focus-Assessed Transthoracic Echocardiography (FATE) and its relevance in perioperative and intensive care settings. Identify standard FATE views and recognize key anatomical structures. Assess basic cardiac function and hemodynamic status using focused echocardiography. Recognize common critical findings such as pericardial effusion, ventricular dysfunction, and hypovolemia. Apply FATE in clinical decision-making, including fluid management and perioperative risk assessment. Appreciate the limitations and scope of FATE within the broader context of patient management.
