Description
The training focused on the physiological mechanisms that regulate cardiovascular function and maintain tissue perfusion. The session explored the principles of haemodynamics, local regulation of blood flow, neural and autonomic control of circulation, hormonal and humoral mechanisms, and organ-specific cardiovascular responses. Special attention was given to autoregulation, baroreceptor and chemoreceptor reflexes, the autonomic nervous system, the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system (RAAS), vasopressin, natriuretic peptides, and their relevance in clinical and anesthetic practice.
Objectives
Explain the haemodynamic principles governing cardiovascular regulation, including Ohm's Law and Poiseuille's Law.
Describe the three major levels of cardiovascular control: local, neural, and hormonal regulation.
Discuss mechanisms of local blood flow regulation, including autoregulation, myogenic control, active hyperemia, reactive hyperemia, and endothelial vasoactive factors.
Explain the role of metabolic mediators and long-term vascular adaptations in maintaining tissue perfusion.
Describe the organization and function of the autonomic nervous system and medullary cardiovascular centers in circulatory control.
Explain the physiology of high-pressure baroreceptors, low-pressure volume receptors, chemoreceptors, and the CNS ischemic response in cardiovascular homeostasis.
Discuss the hormonal regulation of circulation, including the sympathoadrenal system, RAAS, vasopressin (ADH), and natriuretic peptides (ANP/BNP).
Analyze organ-specific cardiovascular regulation in the cerebral, coronary, renal, and skeletal muscle circulations.
Integrate local, neural, and hormonal mechanisms in maintaining arterial blood pressure, cardiac output, and tissue perfusion under physiological and pathological conditions.
Apply cardiovascular physiology concepts to clinical anesthesia and perioperative patient management.
