Colorectal Surgery Preceptorship Education & Outreach Summit
Objectives
At the end of this educational activity, participants should be able
to:
1. Appreciate the anatomy of the colon in relation to surgery
2. Discuss the indications and interpretation of different
imaging techniques used in screening, diagnosis and staging
of colon cancer
3. Recognize the role of pathological diagnosis, staging,
molecular subtypes, the prognostic and therapeutic for
colon cancer
4. To discuss the processes of histological sample
optimization in colon cancer diagnosis.
5. Review the role of chemotherapy in colon cancer
management: Adjuvant, neo-adjuvant and Metastatic disease.
6. Review the principles of radiotherapy in colorectal cancer
management (adjuvant and metastatic disease)
7. Discuss the indications and principles of various colectomies
8. Discuss the principles and technique of regional nodal
dissection
9. Understand principles of post-operative colorectal care-
ERAS. Stoma care, trouble shooting
10. To discuss the psychosocial aspects of colorectal cancer
management- Communication, counselling, and linkage to
support groups and survivorship care.
11. Demonstrate practical skills in screening sigmoidoscopies,
colonoscopies
12. To understand the role of multidisciplinary team in
colorectal cancer management.
13. Appreciate the practical aspects of colorectal surgery cancer
surgery, colectomies, total mesorectal excision.
