Cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) are the leading cause of death in the world, and the second most common in Africa. Over 35% of all deaths in Africa are attributed to CVDs; representing an alarming 50% increase over just the past 3 years (NCBI, 2020). Coronary artery disease is expected to become the leading cause of death on the continent within a decade (Mensah, Heart, 2003). Halting this pandemic is of critical importance, yet progress across the continent has been slow. Although the situation is dire, effective solutions exist. Our goal, as the Pan-African Society of Cardiology (PASCAR), is to accelerate the identification and adoption of these solutions. AfricaSTEMI, our annual 5-day cardiovascular networking and educational summit, is one of the key vehicles through which we work toward this goal. Launched in 2016, AfricaSTEMI is the continent’s foremost international congress of professionals concerned about acute coronary syndromes. The 5-day event connects practitioners in the medical and public health arenas to a wide array of policymakers, investors, researchers, influencers and specialists from the communications and technology sectors. Every year, hundreds of participants convene to engage in programs aimed at the reduction of CVDs and to establish priorities that accelerate preparedness models. Africa STEMI 2023 seeks to build on the legacy of excellence crafted over the past five congresses. In transcending national and international borders through an innovative hybrid model that will provide both in-person delegates alike, AfricaSTEMI 2023 will increase its scale and geographic reach, targeting more than 1000 high-profile practitioners and thought leaders from around the world. We have built a brand respected by professionals across Africa, and that is recognized globally. We are proud to partner with the Pan-African Association of Coronary and Structural Interventions as our co-hosts for AfricaSTEMI 2023.
