Description
International Cancer Instituteâ??s Preceptorship Courses aim to leverage the expertise of its Faculty to help clinicians understand best practices in the diagnosis and management of conditions encountered in the clinical setting in sub-Saharan Africa.
Objectives
At the end of this educational activity, participants should be able to: 1. Understand the Epidemiology of Prostate Cancer (Global) 2. To understand the role of screening for prostate cancer, including the evidence for and against the use of prostate-specific antigen (PSA) screening and the practical indications of serum PSA measurement in different clinical settings 3. recognize the role of pathological diagnosis, histologic grading, Gleason system, staging and prognostic factors in prostate cancer. 4. To understand the role of Surgery in the management of localized prostate cancer 5. To understand the role of radiotherapy in the management of localized prostate cancer 6. understand the management options for hormone-sensitive metastatic prostate cancer 7. To understand the definition of castration-resistant prostate cancer (CRPC) and appreciate the novel therapies, their use, and side effects profile in m-CRPC. 8. Discuss treatment options for patients with advanced prostate cancer, including secondary hormonal therapy, chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and radioisotope therapy 9. Understanding of how and when to use bone-targeted therapies and of the prevention and treatment of osteonecrosis of the jaw 10. To understand the role of the multidisciplinary team in prostate cancer management 11. To understand the role of Palliative, supportive, and survivorship care in prostate cancer management 12. Ability to diagnose and manage spinal cord compression, one of the most devastating complications of metastatic prostate cancer 13. To discuss clinical cases between faculty and participants
