Objectives
Course Objectives:
To understand the importance of travel medicine in the wider realm of clinical and preventive medicine
To understand the importance of pre-travel consultation as the bedrock of travel medicine practice
To be able to distinguish the different categories of vaccines used in a travel medicine clinic (routine, recommended, and required)
To be able to determine which vaccine is required for which specific group of travelers (elderly, comorbid travelers, etc.)
To be able to undertake safe prescribing of malarial chemoprophylaxis among different categories of travelers.

Dr. Paul Yonga, an infectious disease specialist and clinical epidemiologist with expertise in tropical and travel medicine. He is also accredited to provide immigration screening for South Africa, Greece, Spain, Saudi Arabia, and China, as well as adult and adolescent vaccinations as per the I-693 requirements for immigration to the U.S. He is the founding Chair, Fountain Projects and Research Office (FOPRO) and Principal Investigator & Clinical Epidemiologist, FOPRO Clinical Research Centre, Eldoret.
