Description

Africa CDC estimates that there is need to vaccinate at least 60% of the African population (750 million people) against COVID-19 so as to achieve herd immunity. This requires access to safe and efficacious vaccines and community acceptance of vaccination. This presentation will provide information on the short term, medium term and long term strategies and plans to make COVID-19 vaccines available to the African population in a timely manner. It will also cover plans to make Africa more reliable on itself in the manufacture of various vaccines. Finally it will cover the role that healthcare workers should, can and must play in increasing vaccines uptake and reducing the burden of COVID-19.

Objectives

To share Africa CDC’s work in securing adequate COVID-19 vaccine doses for Africa in the short, medium and long term.
